Tip Off
Although it is becoming increasingly difficult to set down firm guidelines for the public, one feels that to dispense with definitions altogether would be inappropriate. Let us say then that this is an unending succession of similar episodes. One wants to remain flexible, lest he be like the man who, backed into a philosophical corner, cried, "I deny reinforcement," though not at all sure what it was and secretly disposed to believe as true anything he declared false. Never insist. Then what? Involving a good sport. Does it strike you that in the world today there are far too many scoundrels and far too few good sports? There are reasons for this, not undivorced from the question, "What is this?"--although one feels that now is not the time to divulge them. The previous statement, then, is something of a disposable entity, hello radio, and no semicolons. If you were born between 1940 and 1955, or during any other period in human history, you will also agree that life is rapid and audible. Swiftness is here to stay, and as many have insisted, "Make the best of it." (Which advice is now passed on to you.) Words, then, have begun to clear up and fall into places: an unending succession of similar episodes involving a good sport at a rapid and audible rate. And yet you might ask yourself if this isn't one of those definitions which is characterized by a high degree of interchangeableness. There's something to that, for as chalk lines erode, the mobility which many have advocated becomes the reality which they cannot handle. Personality is thrown off the court just when there is no one to do the throwing.
