Names of Typhoons
The couple made a living by making
weather forecasts, predicting the odds of a storm. They say typhoons were named after women and their changing moods. They say nothing about the man and his anger, how he would beat his wife one moment then tell her to come to bed the next, or how her bruises turn many colors before they'd fade and stop hurting. As soon as she goes to their neighbors for shelter, the apologies come raining, their love a series of fits and starts. Typhoons were named after women for this kind of pain, unknowable and unseen except to themselves, and those who know the signs. By Camille Rivera QLRS Vol. 15 No. 1 Jan 2016_____
