i went away in search of sun,
into the sea where light pools
around bare ankles. the waves

are enough. they trace my feet
navigating sand, a jellyfish
floats by. i let it come close

and i can see everything:
its body, a lack
of necessary organs, a sun

on its back, spot of light
misunderstood as heart.
i forget its sting. my palm slips

into the water, a second
lover seeking corrosion.
