The other side of fear
Throw the quote at me, then. Everything
I've ever wanted, if I would just carpe diem and seize the day. I say everything I want is on the same side. Fear is the ice-cream running deliciously down my neck onto the clothes I am scared to get wet. He is in the emails that cause me to clutch my emotional support cup like a talisman. Same thing. I am slightly grossed out by fire ants but I eat them. They taste nutty. Sort of. I can't explain the myriad minor inconveniences that cause my heart to race but I will say it is probably his doing. We've struck a bargain of sorts, him and I: he frees me from boredom, I give him life. He is the crest of the tsunami, neck of the broken guitar, dead child cradled in a mother's arms. I don't wait. Feel the looming shadow, ravine waiting down below. Do it anyway. By Kristine Chng QLRS Vol. 23 No. 3 Jul 2024_____
