Khaou Gulli / Mumbai Like the old dog
in the mouth of the alley, fat-
bellied, slow-
moving and
uncertain whether to stand
or lie down, neither
the mind
nor any thought it produces
is agile anymore, although the weight
of age makes
their relaxations, when one
finally arrives, profound, lying there
like the dog eventually does
without care while paan-chewers walk by
and the muezzin finishes calling
worshippers to prayer. By Robert Bohm QLRS Vol. 7 No. 4 Oct 2008_____
